Words mean things...
... just not necessarily the same things.
Languages confuse things. alot. I dont understand people here in Germany, and it frustrates me, i understand a bit, and i understand alot more now than i did when i first came out here, but its hard sometimes when someone talks to you and you havent a clue what theyve just said.
Its a scary world when you speak a different language to everyone and everything around you.
We take words for granted so much, and its not until you go somewhere that uses different words that you realise how much of a comfort it is to be able to communicate to people with words. just to hear people talking in your language, a language that takes no thinking to understand, is such a comfort to hear!
Sometimes its nice to be able to let the sounds of the words flow over you without knowing their meanings. its like watching a film in a foreign language, when you get tired of reading the subtitles you can just sit and watch the images and let the words flow over you like a river of sound.
I look forward to being back in a world where i understand what people say though, its been a nice break and a helpful experiance i think [i hope] my german has improved!

I didn’t know you had a blog, I’ve just been reading through this first page, some interesting and plain weird stuff, but I shall add you to my rss feed and keep an eye on what you are up to.
I decided to comment on this entry as I know what you mean, when I was in Guatemala, I was with a translator, but some times he was off doing something else and I spoke no Spanish, it was very difficult and a very strange 10 days. The biggest language barrier memory from the trip though was the bad stomach, no loo paper and no common language! (probably more info than you wanted!)
